Since its inception, the Song and Dance Ensemble „Śląsk” has been regularly traveling around the world, and one of its permanent stops is the United States. For the first time, Polish songs and dances performed by artists from Koszęcin were presented to the American audience as early as 1959. In the following decades, „Śląsk” gave concerts in the USA many times, m.in. in 1974, 1978, 1985, 1989, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022. Each of these performances was enthusiastically received, especially among the American Polish community, who welcomed the meetings with Polish culture.
One of the unique moments in the history of „Śląsk” was a two-week tour in December 2008, during which the band gave concerts in Michigan, Illinois and Texas, performing the most beautiful carols and pastorals. Concerts took place, m.in others, in Chicago, Burbank, Houston, San Antonio, as well as in towns with Polish roots, such as Panna Maria and St. Hedwig. A special attraction of this tour was Christmas Eve, which the band spent under palm trees in Texas, meeting with the descendants of Silesian emigrants from 150 years ago.
Another memorable moment was the 2012 tour, during which the band had to face the challenges of Hurricane Sandy. Despite the difficult weather conditions, the tour was carried out in its entirety, to the great joy of the Poles waiting for their performances.
This year, „Śląsk” is visiting America again with a Christmas program consisting of carols, pastorals and the most popular folk and classical songs. The tour includes performances in Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose, m.in and begins with concerts in Chicago.
The concert of the Śląsk band entitled „Holy Night” is an extraordinary spectacle full of warmth and magic of Christmas. The program includes the most beautiful Polish carols and pastorals that move and put you in a festive mood. We will hear, m.in, songs arranged by Stanisław Hadyna, such as: „God is Born”, „Little Jesus”, „Silent Night”, „Oj maluśki” and „Adeste fideles”.
An additional surprise of the concert will be a folk element, which will add a unique character to this event, combining the Christmas atmosphere with Polish tradition.
